HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University men's soccer team battled for a 3-1 win over Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
The Cyclones ran their win streak to three straight matches and improved to 2-0 in CSAC play with the victory.
Centenary struck early in this one as sophomore
Eric Nugent knocked a ball home at 2:25 mark. Nugent's second goal of the season came off a pass from senior
Josh Weiss.
The Cyclones added to their lead just before the half as Weiss sent a pass into freshman
Besnik Hadzovic, who scored his first collegiate goal.
Centenary carried that 2-0 advantage into the half. The Cyclones held an 8-4 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes of the game and took the game's only corner kick in that half.
Rosemont got one of those goals back at 53:50 as
Josh Dawicki scored off a pass from
Christian Rafter. Dawicki's goal snapped a scoreless streak of over 279 minutes for the Cyclones' defense.
Centenary added an insurance goal as senior
Jared Miele scored his second of the season at 64:25. Miele's goal came as sophomore
Daisuke Suzuki inserted the ball on a corner kick.
That made the score 3-1 in favor of the Cyclones, who held on until time expired.
Senior
Devon Warne made five saves to earn the win in goal for the Cyclones.
Grant Gonzaelz made 11 saves in the loss for the Ravens.
Centenary held a 25-11 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 10 when they host the College of New Rochelle at 4 p.m.
