HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Seniors
Amanda Benoit and
Kristin Karszen each scored a pair of goals to lead the Centenary University women's soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Wilson College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
For the Cyclones, it was their third straight win and fourth shutout in CSAC play this season.
Centenary needed less than two minutes to get on the scoreboard as junior
Stephanie Williams scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year on a penalty shot.
Williams' goal was the first of four strikes for the Cyclones in the first 20 minutes of the game. Karszen struck for back-to-back goals. The first of Karszen's goals was assisted by Benoit while junior
Chloe Christopher picked up a helper on the second. That early scoring spurt was capped by a goal from junior
Raeanna Cope.
Benoit struck for her first of two on the day at 24:27 as Christopher picked up her second assist of the afternoon.
Junior
Haley Hobbs capped the first half scoring as she made a long run and cut around a defender for the goal at 33:08.
Centenary held a 29-2 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Cyclones tacked on two more goals in the second half. Benoit tallied her second of the day on a penalty shot before freshman
Amanda Lebelt found the back of the net off a pass from Benoit.
Those two goals made the final score, 8-0 in favor of the home team.
Junior
Justine Stefura posted her second straight shutout to earn the win in goal. She registered a pair of saves as Centenary limited Wilson to just three shots in the game.
Aubrey Runkle made 10 saves in the loss for Wilson.
Benoit finished with six points in the game on two goals and two assists while Karszen had four points after scoring twice. Christopher also posted a multiple point day for the Cyclones after picking up her two assists.
Centenary finished the day with a 41-3 advantage in shots and a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Cyclones are back in action on Monday, Oct. 8 when they host Brooklyn College at 3 p.m.
