Women's Soccer Wraps Up Undefeated CSAC Season With 5-0 Win

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A furious second half scoring frenzy lifted the Centenary University women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Clarks Summit University in the regular season finale for both squads.

With the win, the Cyclones finished Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with a perfect 8-0 mark and did not allow a goal in any of those games. It's the first time a CSAC school has gone undefeated in CSAC action since Cabrini was 11-0 in 2014.

The Cyclones applied the pressure right out of the gate but were unable to dent the scoreboard in the first 45 minutes of action. Centenary forced Clarks Summit goalkeeper Lauryn Brown to make five saves in the first 15 minutes of the game and 11 first half saves total.

Freshman Rachel Colt turned away the only shot on goal by the Defenders in the first half.

The Cyclones got things going just over five minutes into the second half as junior Haley Hobbs took a cross from senior Amanda Benoit and punched it home for her fifth goal of the season.

Junior Chloe Christopher struck for her first of the day at 51:54 which increased the home team's advantage to 2-0.

Just over four minutes later Benoit scored her 14th of the season off a pass from Christopher.

Christopher scored two more times in the contest to complete her second hat trick of the season and put the wraps on the 5-0 win for the Cyclones.

Colt needed to make just the one first half save to secure the win and her fifth shutout of the season. The Centenary defense clamped down in the second half and did not allow a shot. Brown finished with 23 saves for the Defenders.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 31 when they host a CSAC semifinal game. As the number one seed, Centenary will take on the lowest remaining seed of the first round games that will take place on Monday, Oct. 29.
