LANGHORNE, Pa. – Junior
Chloe Christopher scored 5:42 into overtime to lift the Centenary University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Cairn University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Cyclones improved to 7-0 in conference action and clinched the number one seed for the CSAC Tournament, which begins Oct. 29. It's the first time in head coach
Kevin Davies' tenure that the Cyclones will be the number one seed for the conference tournament.
It was the first overtime game for the Cyclones since they faced Drew on Sept. 2 of last year.
Both teams had chances in the first period but neither was able to get on the board. Centenary took four shots as Christopher had a pair of opportunities. Freshman
Rachel Colt rejected all three shots the Highlanders took.
Centenary applied the pressure early in the second half but Cairn's
Mackenzie Paugh made three saves in just over the first 10 minutes. The two squads remained deadlocked at 0-0 after 90 minutes of action.
Colt had a save in the second half for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones took the only two shots of the overtime session and made the second one count. Freshman
Amanda Lebelt stole it from the Cairn centerback and dribbled towards Paugh, who came out towards the ball. Lebelt then passed off to Christopher who finished into the basically open net.
It was Christopher's team-leading 12th goal of the season and her third game-winning goal this season.
Colt finished with four saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. Paugh made six saves in the loss for the Highlanders.
The Cyclones return to action on Monday, Oct. 22 as they host Immaculata at 3 p.m.
