Women’s Soccer Bounces Back with Shutout Victory over Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 30, 2017)- Senior Jessica Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) and freshman Brooke Carty (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) each netted two goals as the Centenary University women's soccer team rebounded with a 4-0 shutout victory over Cedar Crest College on Saturday morning.

Sophomore Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) finished with two points on two assists for the Cyclones who improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Morgan Maddock and Cara Montanye combined for 12 saves, as the Falcons fall to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in the CSAC.

Benoit and Carty each notched a goal in both halves as the Cyclones dominated the contest from start to finish. Centenary scored early and often as Benoit got things started for Centenary in the 10th minute. An initial shot from Christopher bounced back to Benoit and she ripped it for her first goal of the season.

Carty gave the Clones a 2-0 lead in the 34th minute when she played a pass from Benoit and split two Falcon defenders for the score.  Centenary held on to their 2-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Centenary kept their foot on the gas and continued to attack the Cedar Crest defense. Montanye held the Cyclones in check for the first 20 minutes of the second stanza, as she made five of her eight saves in the opening 10 minutes.

Centenary finally answered in the 74th minute as sophomore Chloe Christopher (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) connected with Carty for the score and the 3-0 advantage. Benoit wasn't finished as she assisted on her sister's second goal of the match, for the 4-0 lead, in the 79th minute.

Carty and A. Benoit each tallied six shots, while both junior Kara LaPolice (East Amwell, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) and Christopher took four shots apiece. Seniors Kaitlin Marold (Edison, N.J. / Edison) and Taylor Pryslak (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) combined for five saves and split time in the net.  Erika D'Angelo took two shots, while Daria Warner, Kelsey Kehm, and Jackalyn Beckett each recorded one.

Head Coach Kevin Davies and the Cyclones will return to action in La Plume, Pa. on Wednesday, Oct. 4th, against the Giants of Keystone College at 7:00 p.m.
