LA PLUME, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2017)- Senior
Jessica Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) netted two second half goals, including the game-winner as the Centenary University women's soccer team defeated Keystone College, 3-1 on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore
Chloe Christopher (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) totaled two points on two assists as the Cyclones improve to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Nisa Cortes scored a goal for the Giants who fall to 4-6-1 overall and 3-3 in the CSAC.
The Cyclones struck first in the opening minute on their first shot of the match as junior
Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) scored off an assist from Christopher. Christopher dribbled the ball down the right side and played a cross to Benoit. Benoit one touched the ball for the 1-0 lead.
The Giants evened the match at 1-1 in the 22
nd minute when Cortes scored off an assist from Kristy Hansen. Despite the game being tied at intermission, Centenary edged Keystone on shots (12-7), shots on goal (7-4) and corner kicks (5-0).
In the second half, Centenary ripped another 12 shots but didn't manage to put one in the back of the net until the final 10 minutes of the contest. Benoit broke the 1-1 tie in the 80
th minute, when she scored off an assist from her younger sister. The younger Benoit played a short cross to the older Benoit, who slotted the ball into the far post from 10 yards out.
Benoit scored an insurance goal in the 87
th minute, after Christopher played a cross from the right side and Benoit scored on the near post.
Christopher tallied a game-high seven shots, while Benoit recorded six and junior
Kristin Karszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor) took four shots. Seniors
Taylor Pryslak (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) and
Kaitlin Marold (Edison, N.J. / Edison) combined for five saves with Pryslak picking up the decision in goal. Jenna Moranski, Hannah Richner and Cortes each tallied three shots, while Rebekah Shepherd made nine saves in net for the Giants.
