Chloe Christopher (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) and freshman
Brooke Carty (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) combined for 12 points as the Centenary University women's soccer team posted an 8-0 shutout in the victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon.
Carty totaled six points on a hat-trick, while Christopher tallied six points on two goals and two assists for the Cyclones, who improve to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Loren Pardoe made 25 saves for the Gators who fall to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the CSAC.
The Cyclones went wire-to-wire in this afternoon's contest, scoring four goals apiece in each half. Centenary didn't allow a shot (49-0) or surrender a corner kick (17-0) for the entire match.
Christopher or Carty played a role in each of the Cyclones first four goals. Christopher scored the opening goal of the contest, off an assist from senior
Emily Pizzuto (Whitehouse Station, N.J. / Hunterdon Central), in the second minute before assisting on junior
Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) goal in the 14
th minute. Centenary held a 2-0 lead, just 15 minutes into the match. Carty capped off the first stanza, by netting two unassisted goals in the 29
th and 32
nd minutes for a 4-0 halftime advantage.
The second half proved to be no difference as the Cyclones added another four goals en route to their third straight victory. The Clones opened with back-to-back goals, including a score by junior
Kara LaPolice (East Amwell, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) in the 53
rd minute and a score to complete the hat trick from Carty in the 55
th minute. Centenary held a commanding 6-0 lead.
The Cyclones would add two more insurance goals late in the contest from Christopher and sophomore
Justine Stefura (Port Reading, N.J. / WoodBridge).
LaPolice took a game-high nine shots, while Stefura and junior
Kristin Karszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor) each tallied five shots apiece. Senior
Jessica Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan), Christopher, Benoit, Carty and sophomore
Haley Hobbs (Fairfield, Pa. / Gettysburg Area) all took four shots, while senior
Taylor Pryslak (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) and
Kailtin Marold (Edison, N.J. / Edison) split the shutout with Pryslak improving to 2-0 in the net.
