Four Second Half Goals Propels Men’s Soccer to Victory over Marywood in CSAC Opener

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 27, 2017)- A four goal second half outburst propelled the Centenary University men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Marywood University in their Colonial States Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) totaled five points on three assists and a goal as the Cyclones improve to 2-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC. Dylan McMahon, Zac Lloyd and Jon Dinnell each tallied two shots for the Pacers who fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC.

Despite the Cyclones firing 13 shots in the opening stanza, including two hitting the post from White, Centenary went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0. The Cyclones held strong allowing only three shots, including one on frame in the opening half.

The opening 15 minutes of the second half seemed to swing in favor of the Pacers as they recorded six shots, but couldn't find the back of the net.

Centenary broke the scoreless tie in the 63rd minute, when junior Roger Fernandez (Succcasunna, N.J. / Roxbury) scored off a double assist from White and senior Daniel Lamanna (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury). Lamanna dribbled down the right side and then quickly cut back into the midfield, before making a pass to White. White dribbled towards the net and forced the keeper out of the goal. The MU netminder took White's feet out and forced the ball towards an open Fernandez who tapped it in for the score.

Centenary wasted little time notching their second goal of the afternoon as White played a through ball to fellow classmate Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury). Castro pulled the keeper wide and scored in the open net.

Castro returned the favor to White nearly three minutes later, as he played a defender miscue and made the quick pass to White. White beat the keeper one-on-one for the score.

White wasn't finished racking up points as he assisted on the final goal of the afternoon in the 75th minute, when junior Jared Miele (Flanders, N.J. / Mount Olive) netted a header goal off a corner kick taken by White.

White's afternoon currently moved him up in the records book as well. He took sixth place all-time in goals (25), fourth all-time in assists (17) and fifth all-time in points with (67).

White took a game-high six shots, while Castro tallied four and both Lamanna and freshman Eric Nugent (Dublin, Ireland / St Joseph's Secondary) notched three. Junior Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made two saves and took the victory for Centenary. Nick Dyer, Cody Gangaware, Alex Bucholz, Joseph Kabwe and Giovanni Amato all tallied one shot for the Pacers. Michael Mejia made three saves in 64:31 of work for Marywood.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action in Langhorne, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 30th against the Highlanders of Cairn University at 4:00 p.m.
