Three Different Cyclones Score as Women’s Soccer Drops CSAC Contest to Marywood

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 26, 2017)- Three Different Cyclones netted a goal as the Centenary University women's soccer team dropped a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest to Marywood University, 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field.

Julie Youngman and Megan Swiecicki both tallied three points on one goal and one assist for the Pacers who improve to 4-4 overall and 4-0 in the CSAC. Junior Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) finished with three points on a goal and an assist for the Cyclones who fall to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CSAC.

Despite Marywood scoring two goals in the opening 30 minutes, the first half proved to be fairly even with the Pacers edging the Cyclones on shots (12-11). Centenary answered just before halftime, when senior Emily Pizzuto (Whitehouse Station, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) converted on a penalty kick after freshman Brooke Carty (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) was fouled inside the box. Marywood held a 2-1 lead at intermission.

The second half told a very different story as Marywood continued to fire shots and scored three unanswered goals in the process.  The Cyclones were held to just two shots until the final 10 minutes of the contest. During that time, Centenary scored two goals, including Benoit notching a goal and an assist.

Her first goal came when Pizzuto played a ball over the top to sophomore Justine Stefura (Port Reading, N.J. / WoodBridge). Stefura took three dibbles and became sandwiched between two defenders, but still managed to pass the ball off to Benoit. Benoit one-timed the ball for the score.

Benoit assisted on the final goal of the afternoon, as she played a through ball to sophomore Chloe Christopher (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central). Christopher dribbled down the right side and when one-on-one with the keeper for the score.

Christopher took a team-high four shots, while Benoit tallied two and junior Kara LaPolice (East Amwell, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) notched one. Senior Kaitlin Marold (Edison, N.J. / Edison) made eight saves and took the loss in 90 minutes of work.  Renae Moken took a game-high seven shots, while Swiecicki notched six shots. Aly Moyer improved to 4-4 in net with five saves in 90 minutes of work.

Head Coach Kevin Davies and the Cyclones will return to action in Allentown, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 30th, against the Falcons of Cedar Crest College at 11:00 a.m.
