HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2017)- Juniors
Kara LaPolice (East Amwell, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) and
Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) combined for eight points as the Centenary University women's soccer team came away with a decisive 6-1 victory on the opening day of the Cyclone Kickoff Classic.
LaPolice netted two goals, while Benoit totaled two assists and one goal for the Cyclones who improve to 1-0 overall. Daisy Gomez scored the lone goal for the Lightning who fall to 0-1 overall.
LaPolice and Benoit each netted a goal in the opening 26 minutes, but Centenary held a tight 2-1 lead after the ????Lightning converted on a penalty kick in the 17
th minute. The Cyclones added two more goals before the end of the first half, including senior
Emily Pizzuto (Whitehouse Station, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) scoring off a Benoit corner kick in the 35
th minute. Centenary held a 4-1 entering halftime.
In the second half, Benoit moved into a tie for first place on Centenary's all-time assist list with a feed to freshman
Brooke Carty (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) in the 60
th minute. Carty notched the first goal of her Cyclones career after Benoit beat the defender down the left side and tapped the ball to her for the score. Benoit currently ties the career record with
Tatiana Kingston, who played from 2010-12. Junior
Kristin Karszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor) capped off the scoring on the afternoon for the Cyclones with a goal at the 69
th minute.
Centenary dominated on shots (31-7) and corner kicks (7-1). Junior
Kaitlin Marold (Edison, N.J. / Edison) made three saves and tallied the victory, while Rebecca Gritz made seven saves and took the loss for Lehman.

Jess Petty (Bordentown, N.J. / Bordentown Regional) all made their debuts in a Cyclone uniform.
