Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Cabrini


RADNOR, Pa. (Apr. 9, 2017)- Junior John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) recorded three hits, while both fellow classmates Sean Donovan (Howell, N.J. / Howell ) and Kevin Sensale (Bartonsville, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) both homered as the Centenary University baseball team dropped a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader to Cabrini University on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 9-9 overall and 3-6 in the CSAC, while the Cyclones fall to 1-16 overall and 0-8 in the CSAC.

GAME 1: Cabrini 7, Centenary 4
Sensale went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a homerun, while Tierney went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as the Cyclones scored four runs on eight hits in the game one loss.

Cabrini led 6-0 entering the bottom of the third, when Sensale gave Centenary their first runs of the afternoon with a two run homer that cut the Cavaliers lead to 6-2. After
Cabrini added another run in the top of the fourth, Centenary answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) hit an RBI double to left center and then was brought home on a sacrifice fly by freshman Jon Fleck (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) later in the inning. Centenary now only trailed 7-4 entering the sixth.  

The Cavs turned to Andrew Del Giudice, who shut down the Cyclones in the final two innings, allowing just one hit and recording a save in the process. Junior James Graziani (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater – Raritan) struck out four batters in 4.2 innings pitched and took the loss for Centenary.

GAME 2: Cabrini 7, Centenary 3
Donovan and Fleck both went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Daniele went 1-for-1 with a run scored as the Cyclones only scored three runs on four hits in the game two loss.
Cabrini totaled three runs apiece in both the third and fifth innings to take a 6-0 lead entering the bottom of the sixth. Centenary would score all their runs in the sixth with three runs on three hits, including a solo homerun from Donovan and an RBI double from Fleck. Daniele, who reached on a walk, would be balked home for the third Centenary run of the inning. Cabrini would add an insurance run in the seventh and hang on for the victory and the sweep.

Ryan Givens tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts and three earned runs to improve to 1-1. Junior Luis Santiago (Dover, N.J. / Dover) tossed four innings and struck out three batters in the loss for Centenary.  

Head Coach Scott Kushner and the Cyclones will return to action tomorrow, Monday, Apr. 10th, hosting the Cavaliers of Cabrini University for the series finale at 3:00 p.m.
