Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) went 2-for-4 with three RBI's and a run scored, while junior
Kevin Sensale (Bartonsville, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored as the Centenary University baseball team rallied to defeat Cabrini University, 9-4 on Monday afternoon.
The Cyclones snapped a 12 game losing streak and an eight game conference losing streak to improve to 2-16 overall and 1-8 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Colin Birzes went 3-for-4 for the Cavaliers who fall to 9-10 overall and 3-6 in the CSAC.
Centenary wasted little time; by taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with Daniele recording an RBI groundout and Sensale scoring on a wild pitch. Cabrini responded with four runs on eight hits over the next four innings, including two runs in the bottom of the third. The Cavs held a 4-2 lead entering the top of the seventh.
In the seventh, Sensale recorded both of his RBI's during a bases loaded situation, that scored junior
John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) and sophomore
Joe Piscopo (Matawan, N.J. / Matawan),and evened the game at 4-4. The Cyclones kept their hot bats going into the eighth as they batted around the order and tallied five runs on four hits. Daniele recorded two RBI's and scored a run, while both Tierney and sophomore
Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury) posted an RBI as the Cyclones took a commanding 9-4 lead into the bottom half of the inning.
The Cavs couldn't recover in the eighth and ninth innings, going down 1-2-3 in short order. Sophomore
Casey Brown (Easton, Pa. / Easton Area) tossed six innings with four strikeouts and one earned run in the no decision. Graduate Student
Joe Frankosky (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) recorded his first victory of the season with only one hit in two innings of scoreless baseball.
