Kevin Sensale recorded three hits with a run scored as the Centenary University baseball team dropped a series opening doubleheader to Gwynedd-Mercy University on Saturday afternoon.The Griffins improve to 15-10-1 overall and 6-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Cyclones fall to 2-18 overall and 1-10 in the CSAC.
GAME 1: Gwynedd-Mercy 8, Centenary 1
Sensale went 2-for-3 while sophomore
Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury) went 1-for-3 and junior
Sean Donovan (Howell, N.J. / Howell ) drove in a run as the Cyclones scattered one run on three hits in the game one loss.
The Griffins scored eight runs on five hits, including recording four runs in both the third and fifth innings. Centenary trailed 8-0 in the top of the seventh when the Cyclones got their first run of the contest with an RBI groundout by Donovan that brought home Sensale.
Junior
James Graziani (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater – Raritan) struck out two batters in four innings pitched in the loss for Centenary. Gradute Student
Joe Frankosky (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) and sophomore
Frankie Iannone (Great Meadows, N.J. / Hackettstown) made relief appearances for the Cyclones.
GAME 2: Gwynedd-Mercy 7, Centenary 6
Senior
Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) and junior
Tim Maxwell (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) both went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as the Cyclones scored six runs on nine hits in the nightcap loss.
GMercyU held a 5-0 lead entering the fourth after posting five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third. Centenary responded with four runs on three hits in the fourth; including a two RBI double from junior
Michael Dolan (Piscataway, N.J. / Immaculata) and an RBI single from fellow classmate
John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) that cut the Cyclones deficit to 5-4.
GMU answered with another two runs on two hits, including back-to-back RBI's that extended their lead to 7-4. Centenary would not go quietly as the Cyclones scored another two runs in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Daniele and an RBI sacrifice fly from Maxwell. Centenary trailed 7-6 entering the seventh.
In the seventh, Centenary failed to capitalize on the comeback going down 1-2-3 in the final at-bats. Junior
Luis Santiago (Dover, N.J. / Dover) struck out two batters in 2.1 innings pitched and recorded a no decision. Senior
Alan Scariallo (Edison, N.J. / St. Joseph) recorded his first loss of the season, while fellow classmate
Ryan St. John (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) allowed only two hits in two innings of scoreless baseball.

Scott Kushner and the Cyclones will return to action Monday, Apr. 17, hosting the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy University for the series finale beginning at 3:00 p.m.
