Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) hit a three-run homer and posted four RBI's as the Centenary University baseball team dropped the series finale to Gwynedd-Mercy University, 10-5 on Monday afternoon.
Shaughn Wright and Nick Mulvey went 3-for-5 with two RBI's and a run scored for the Griffins who improve to 16-10-1 overall and 7-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Sophomore
Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury) and freshman
Jon Fleck (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) both went 2-for-5 for the Cyclones who fall to 2-19 overall and 1-11 in the CSAC.
The Griffins led 10-0 after scoring 10 runs on 15 hits, including three runs apiece in both the second and eighth innings. Centenary finally got a run on the board in the eighth when Daniele recorded a sacrifice fly to score junior
John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) , who led off the inning with a walk, and junior
Tim Maxwell (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) singled to center field that drove in Fleck. Centenary trailed 10-2 entering the ninth inning.
In the ninth, Daniele added to the Cyclones run total with a three-run homer to left center that scored Fleck and Tierney. Tierney walked to reach base for the second straight inning and Fleck singled through the left side to set up first and second with Daniele at the plate.
Daniele's home run was just the second of the season, as he hit a solo homerun in the 8-1 loss to Stockton University on Mar. 5
th. Â After today's performance, Daniele is just one away from his 100
th career RBI. Â Tierney had his nine-game hitting streak snapped and is now just 12 hits away from 100 for his career.
