Clites Homers as Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. (Apr. 8, 2017)- Junior Carolyn Clites (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. / Hasbrouck Heights) went 4-for-7 with a homerun, two RBI's, two doubles and a run scored as the Centenary University softball team split a doubleheader with Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.  The Cyclones record now stands at 7-13 overall and 5-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Mighty Macs record now stands at 10-8 overall and 7-1 in the CSAC.

GAME 1: Centenary 3, Immaculata 2
Clites went 3-for-4 with a homerun, two RBI's and one run scored, while junior Sammie Darling (Succasunna, N.J. / Roxbury) went 2-for-4 and sophomore Amanda Fox (Unionville, Conn. / Farmington) went 2-for-3 as the Cyclones recorded only three runs on 11 hits in a close game one victory.

Centenary took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when freshman Justine Stefura (Port Reading, N.J. / WoodBridge) took advantage of a bases loaded situation and hit an RBI single that scored fellow classmate Jessica Hewitt (Waretown, N.J. / Southern Regional). After IU crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fourth, Clites led off the fifth with a solo homerun to right field that put the Cyclones back in front at 2-1.

Centenary and Immaculata remained even at 2-2 entering the sixth, when Clites drove in the eventually winning run with an RBI double to score senior Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist), who reached on an error.

Hewitt improved to 3-7 overall after pitching three innings of scoreless softball with just one hit after making a relief appearance for Darling.

GAME 2: Immaculata 8, Centenary 0 (5 Inn.)
Stefura went 2-for-3, while senior Jamie Weingarten (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) and Hewitt both went 1-for-2 as the Mighty Macs run ruled the Cyclones with eight runs on 11 hits in the game two loss.

The Cyclones best opportunity came in the top of the second as freshman Juli Wright (Colonia, N.J. / Colonia) walked and then both Hewitt and Weingarten singled to load the bases. IU was able to get out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts.

The Macs made quick work of the Clones tallying three runs in both the second and third innings.

Hewitt took the loss and struck out two batters, while Michaela Petito tossed a complete game with six strikeouts in the victory for Immaculata.

Head Coach Kim Broking and the Cyclones will return to action on Thursday, Apr. 13, hosting the Pacers of Marywood University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
