Juli Wright (Colonia, N.J. / Colonia) went 2-for-4 with two RBI's, two doubles and one run scored as the Centenary University softball team split their regular season finale with Keystone College on Saturday afternoon. The Cyclones finish the regular season at 14-22 overall and 12-10 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The Giants finish their season at 13-23 overall and 8-14 in the CSAC.
GAME 1: Keystone 9, Centenary 1 (6 Inn.)
Sophomore
Amanda Fox (Unionville, Conn. / Farmington), freshman
Jessica Hewitt (Waretown, N.J. / Southern Regional) and Wright all went 1-for-2 as Keystone had three different Giants homer, while only surrendering three hits in the dominating game one victory.
Centenary actually led 1-0 in the second, as Hewitt drove in Wright who reached base on a double to left center. Keystone responded with nine unanswered runs, including homeruns from Hunter Schantz, Emily Long and Shannon Dermont. Keystone led 4-1 entering the sixth, when the Giants recorded five runs on six hits including a solo homerun by Dermont and a two run homer by Long.
Junior
Sammie Darling (Succasunna, N.J. / Roxbury) struck out one batter in the loss, while Alyssa Hughes fanned three and allowed no earned runs in the victory. Â
GAME 2: Centenary 10, Keystone 4
Junior
Raychel Piserchia (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Queen of Peace) went 2-for-3 with three RBI's, while fellow classmate
Ashley Eisenstein (Freehold, N.J. / Freehold Township) went 2-for-5 with two RBI's and two runs scored as the Cyclones scored 10 runs on 11 hits to salvage the doubleheader with a victory. Â
Centenary took a 3-0 lead in the first with three runs on three hits and three errors. Darling recorded an RBI single to score freshman
Justine Stefura (Port Reading, N.J. / WoodBridge) for a 1-0 lead. Wright followed Darling by hitting an RBI double to center field that scored Darling and junior
Carolyn Clites (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. / Hasbrouck Heights).
Keystone answered with three runs over two innings, including the second homerun of the afternoon from Schantz, to even the game at 3-3 entering the fourth.
The Cyclones stretched their lead back to 7-3 in the fifth with four runs on six hits, including RBI's from Eisenstein, Clites, Wright and Piserchia. Centenary added on to their advantage with three runs on two hits in the sixth. Eisenstein recorded her second RBI of the afternoon and Piserchia posted a two RBI double to score both Darling and Eisenstein.
The Clones were well in control when the Giants were able to get a run back in the bottom of the sixth. Hewitt struck out three batters in the complete game victory and improved to 7-9 overall. Jordan Hodle fanned one batter in the loss for Keystone.
