Jasiecki and Sensale Combine for Four RBI’s as Baseball Records Series Opening Victory over Cairn

ALLAMUCHY, N.J. (Apr. 28, 2017)- Junior Kevin Sensale (Bartonsville, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) and sophomore Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury) combined for four RBI's as the Centenary University baseball team recorded a 6-4 series opening victory over Cairn University on Friday afternoon. The Cyclones improve to 5-20 overall and 4-12 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Highlanders fall to 13-16 overall and 3-13 in the CSAC.

After trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the first, Centenary responded with three runs on two hits for a 3-1 advantage. The Cyclones loaded the bases after junior John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) doubled to left center and the Highlanders recorded three straight walks to freshman Jon Fleck (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional), Sensale and junior Tim Maxwell (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) that allowed Centenary to even the game at 1-1. Jasiecki capitalized on the opportunity by hitting a two RBI single through the left side to score Sensale and Fleck.

Sensale would get his first RBI of the afternoon in the third, when he grounded out to the shortstop which drove in senior Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic).

Cairn rallied in the fifth with three runs on two hits and two errors to even the contest at 4-4. A balk and a throwing error allowed the Highlanders to score all three runs. The game remained deadlocked at 4-4 into the seventh, when the Cyclones were able to get two runs across for a 6-4 lead. Tierney lead off with a single, Daniele reached on a walk and
Sensale singled up the middle to score Tierney. After Cairn made a pitching change, Maxwell hit a grounder towards the shortstop that went wide of the first baseman and allowed Daniele to cross the plate.

The pitching carried the Cyclones the rest of the way as senior Ryan St. John (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) recorded his first victory of the season, allowing just one hit in 3.1 innings pitched. Fellow classmate Alan Sciarillo (Edison, N.J. / St. Joseph) recorded his first save of the season allowing only one hit in one innings pitched.

Head Coach Scott Kushner and the Cyclones will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 29th, in Langhorne, Pa. against the Highlanders of Cairn University for a series finale doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
