Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) and
Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) combined for six points on five goals and one assist as the Centenary University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to Manhattanville College, 20-7 on Tuesday evening.
Kat Reilly and Carly Weiss each scored four goals apiece for the Valiants who improve to 7-4 overall. Freshmen
Kassidy Scheuring (Hampton Bays, N.Y. / Hampton Bays) and
Juliana Arias (Dover, N.J. / Morris Hills) both netted a goal for the Cyclones who fall to 2-8 overall. Â Â Â
Voelkner scored two of her three goals in the opening stanza, including back-to-back goals that trimmed Manhattanville's advantage down to 3-2 with 20:47 remaining. The Valiants scored three unanswered goals, before Scheuring scored her only goal of the night with 13:23 remaining. Manhattanville opened things up late in the half with five unanswered goals by five different players. The Valiants led 11-3 at the intermission.
Ortiz opened the second half for Centenary with two goals in the first five minutes, as the Cyclones trailed 13-5 with 26:46 remaining. Manhattanville stretched their lead back to 19-5, before Arias and Voelkner netted late goals for the Cyclones.
Ortiz added six groundballs, four draw controls and two caused turnovers, while Voelkner tallied two groundballs and two draw controls. Senior
Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) scooped up three groundballs, while junior
Katie O'Connell (Nutley, N.J. / Nutley) finished with two draw controls and a groundball. Senior
Morgan Haller (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) tallied a groundball and a caused turnover, while sophomore
Renee Hack (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) made 14 saves in 60 minutes of work. Â
In the record books, Hack is just 16 saves away from moving into third all-time in career saves, surpassing
Andrea Senkarik (2012-13), and 10:57 away from moving into second all-time in career minutes played surpassing Leslie Ann Pritchard (2008-10).
Voelkner's performance tonight continued to move her upwards in the record books. She currently sits at 198 goals, which places her two goals shy of second place all-time (
Danielle Bay '09-'12) and five goals shy of first place all-time (
Megan Mars '07-'10). She also sits at 242 career points, which places her 10 points shy of second place all-time (Mars) and 12 points shy of first place all-time (Bay). Finally in draw controls, she currently sits at 271, which places her 11 shy of the top spot all-time (
Alysia Pinkerton '10-'13). Â Â
