Baseball Swept by Keystone in Series Opening Doubleheader

LA PLUME, Pa. (Apr. 1, 2017)- Junior Tim Maxwell (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) went 1-for-3, while fellow classmate John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) drove in a run as the Centenary University baseball team was swept by the defending CSAC Champion Keystone College. The Giants improve to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Cyclones fall to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in the CSAC.

GAME 1: Keystone 5, Centenary 0
Senior Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic), junior Sean Donovan (Howell, N.J. / Howell ) and Maxwell all recorded one hit apiece as the Cyclones scattered three hits over seven innings in the game one shutout loss.

Miguel Reyes dominated the Cyclones from the mound, tossing a complete game with six strikeouts and no earned runs to improve to 3-0. Daniele, Donovan and Maxwell were the only batters to get into scoring position at second, but Reyes would shut down Centenary's opportunities at every turn.

Keystone scored five runs on five hits, including two runs in the third and two runs in the fifth. Junior James Graziani (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater – Raritan) struck out five batters and only allowed an earned run in the loss for the Cyclones.

GAME 2: Keystone 4, Centenary 1
Tierney, junior Michael Caprari (Candor, N.Y. / Owego Free Academy) and freshman Jon Fleck (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) all recorded a hit as the Cyclones posted one run on three hits in the nightcap loss. The Giants scored four runs on five hits, including three runs in the third inning alone.

Keystone led 3-0 entering the fifth, when the Cyclones finally got their first run across the plate. Maxwell would pinch hit for senior JP Trotman (Riverton, N.J. / Life Center Academy) and then advance to second a wild pitch. Tierney stepped to the plate and hit an RBI single that allowed Maxwell to cross the dish.

Sophomore Frankie Iannone (Great Meadows, N.J. / Hackettstown) struck out one batter in 3.0 innings and took the loss for Centenary. Billy Nelson struck out three and allowed only one earned run, while Brendan Long recorded a save for the Giants in the victory.

Head Coach Scott Kushner and the Cyclones will return to action on Monday, Apr. 3, hosting the Giants of Keystone College in the series finale at 3:00 p.m.
