HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Mar. 8, 2017)- Senior
Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) netted four goals as the Centenary University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to Wesley College, 19-5 on Wednesday afternoon.
Ashley Luna totaled seven points on five goals and two assists for the Wolverines who improve to 5-0 overall.
Senior
Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) totaled three points on three assists for the Cyclones who fall to 0-2 overall.
Centenary actually led very early in the contest at 1-0, when sophomore
Nicole Soriero (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) scored her first collegiate goal. The Wolverines then proceeded to score 11 unanswered goals before Voelkner netted her first goal of the afternoon, off a feed from senior
Korin Karszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor ), with under four minutes to play in the opening stanza. Centenary trailed 11-2 at the intermission.
In the second half, Voelkner completed her hat-trick with three unanswered goals that were all assisted by Ortiz. After Voelkner goals, Wesley added on to the total with five more goals in the final 18:17 of the contest.
Sophomore
Renee Hack (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) totaled 16 saves in 60 minutes of work between the pipes. Ortiz totaled four groundballs, two caused over and one draw control, while Voelkner tallied eight draw controls, three groundballs and one caused turnover. Junior
Katie O'Connell (Nutley, N.J. / Nutley) totaled three groundballs, while sophomore
Krysta Astengo (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) finished with two caused turnovers.
