Renee Hack (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) made 14 saves as the Centenary University women's lacrosse team opened the 2017 season with an 18-2 loss to PSU-Abington on Saturday afternoon.
Marah Hayes finished with six points on four goals and two assists for the Nittany Lions who improve to 1-0 overall. Senior
Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) netted the two goals for the Cyclones who fall to 0-1 overall.
Centenary trailed 10-0, before Voelkner scored off an assist from junior
Katie O'Connell (Nutley, N.J. / Nutley) with 11:12 remaining in the opening stanza. Voelkner also netted her second goal of the afternoon just before the end of the first half.
In the second half, PSU scored another six goals including two apiece from Hayes and Sarah Eisele.
Voelkner added five draw controls, while Hack tallied four groundballs. Senior
Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) totaled three groundballs and a caused turnover, while fellow classmate
Morgan Haller (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) added three groundballs.
