Men’s Lacrosse Falls to DeSales in Non-Conference Clash

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Mar. 29, 2017)- Junior Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) scored both goals as the Centenary University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to DeSales University, 10-2 on Wednesday evening.

Justin Monaghan and Justin Wilson both posted hat-tricks for the Bulldogs who improve to 3-4 overall. Sophomore Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) made seven saves for the Cyclones who fall to 4-2 overall.

The Bulldogs defense stifled the Cyclones all night along, forcing 27 turnovers and only allowing 13 shots on net. Centenary was in the game in the first quarter, when Muff scored off an assist from senior Luke Tremont (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township) with 5:28 remaining to even the contest at 1-1. Monaghan and Wilson each netted two goals apiece in the opening stanza, including back-to-back goals from Monaghan in the second quarter that gave DeSales a 5-1 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 7-1 with two goals early in the second half, before Muff finally put Centenary back on the scoreboard with his second goal of the evening at the 6:59 mark of the third quarter. At this point the game was way out of reach for the Cyclones, when Eric Margo added two more and Wilson completed his hat-trick late in the fourth.

Muff added four groundballs, while junior Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) totaled four groundballs and two caused turnovers. Cameron tallied four groundballs, while freshman Jon Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) added three groundballs and one caused turnover. Junior Spencer Stachowiak (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air), sophomore Jon Howell (Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) and Tremont all posted two groundballs apiece. Freshman Chris Howell (Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) went 8-for-15 on faceoffs.

Head Coach Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action in Aston, Pa. on Saturday, Apr. 1st against the Knights of Neumann University at 2:00 p.m.
