Tierney and Maxwell Combine for Six Hits as Baseball Falls to Nationally-Ranked Rowan

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (Mar. 16, 2017)- Juniors John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) and Tim Maxwell (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) combined for a perfect 6-for-6  form the plate with a run scored in the 17-1 loss to nationally-ranked Rowan University on Thursday morning at the RussMatt Invitational.  The #21 Profs improve to 9-3 overall, while the Cyclones fall to 1-7 overall.

Rowan exploded for 17 runs on 18 hits, including scoring at least one run in each inning. Rowan already led 10-0 entering the top of the fifth, when Tierney smacked a double to right center and then scored two batters later on a wild pitch. After Tierney's run, the Profs scored another five runs on six hits in the bottom half of the fifth.

Tierney finished the game going 4-for-4 from the dish, while Maxwell went 2-for-2 from the plate. Junior Kevin Sensale (Bartonsville, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) and sophomore Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury) each recorded a hit as the Cyclones scattered eight hits over seven innings.

Rob Grilli allowed only one run and six hits in five innings pitched, while taking the decision for Rowan. Sophomore JT Valley (North Planfield, N.J. / North Planfield) struck out one batter and took the loss. Graduate Student Joe Frankosky (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional), junior John Stanziale (Middletown, N.J. / Mater Dei Prep), and freshman Christian Ammiano (Hopatcong, N.J. / Hopatcong) all made relief appearances for Centenary.
