NAPLES, Fla. (Mar. 12, 2017)- Junior
Carolyn Clites (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. / Hasbrouck Heights) went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI as the Centenary University softball team opened the 2017 season with losses to Edgewood College and Nazareth College at North Collier Park this morning. The Eagles improve to 1-8 overall, while the Golden Flyers improve to 1-0 overall. Centenary starts the season at 0-2 overall.
GAME 1: Edgewood (WI) 8, Centenary 0
Edgewood College from Verona, Wisconsin picked up their first victory of the season and their first win at the Gene Cusic Classic with the 8-0 shutout victory over the Cyclones. Shannon Whitmus tossed a no-hitter as the Eagles scored eight runs on 12 hits, including 3-for-3 with four RBI's from Jordan Anderson.
Junior
Sammie Darling (Succasunna, N.J. / Roxbury) and freshman
Justine Stefura (Port Reading, N.J. / WoodBridge) were the only two Cyclones to get on base as Stefura reached on a hit by pitch and walk , while Darling also walked to reach base. Freshman
Jessica Hewitt (Waretown, N.J. / Southern Regional) struck out five batters and took the loss for Centenary.
GAME 2: Nazareth (NY) 13, Centenary 1
Nazareth College from Rochester, N.Y. also picked up their first win of the season with 13 runs on 15 hits, including 3-for-5 with three RBI's from both Marissa Tortora and Nicole White. White also struck out 15 batters in the victory for the Golden Flyers.
The Cyclones scattered five hits and scored one run over seven innings in the loss. Nazareth held a 2-0 lead in the third, when Clites smacked an RBI double to left center that scored Stefura for Centenary's only run of the afternoon.

Ashley Eisenstein (Freehold, N.J. / Freehold Township), freshman
Juli Wright (Colonia, N.J. / Colonia) and Hewitt all went 1-for-3 from the dish. Darling tossed six innings with one strikeout in the loss for the Cyclones.
