AUBURNDALE, Fla. (Mar. 12, 2017) - Senior
Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) went 2-for-4 with four RBI's, three runs scored, a triple and a double as the Centenary University baseball team earned its first victory of the season with a 14-5 defeat of UMASS-Dartmouth on Sunday evening.
Freshman
Jon Fleck (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a triple for the Cyclones who improve to 1-4 overall. Taylor Cacciola went 3-for-3 with a homerun for the Corsairs who fall to 1-3 overall.
The Cyclones hot bats went to work early in the bottom of the first when Daniele, junior
Kevin Sensale (Bartonsville, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) and sophomore
Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury all drove in RBI's to put Centenary up 3-0. UMass-Dartmouth evened the game at 3-3 in the top of second with an RBI single and a two-run homer.
Centenary added two more runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 7-4 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. In the seventh,
Centenary scored seven runs on three hits along with four errors from the Corsairs defense. Depsite the errors, Daniele hit a two run RBI double to score junior
John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) and sophomore
Chase Koffel (Perkiomenville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley), who both scored earlier in the same inning on UMD throwing errors. Â
Sensale and Jasiecki both recorded two hits, while sophomore
Joe Piscopo (Matawan, N.J. / Matawan), Tierney, junior
Tim Maxwell (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) and junior
Sean Dovonan (Howell, N.J. / Howell) each tallied a hit in the victory. Sophomore
Casey Brown (Easton, Pa. / Easton Area) tossed 7.0 complete innings with seven strikeouts and earned the decision.
