HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Feb. 25, 2017)- Sophomore
Chris Snow (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) totaled eight points on seven assists and one goal as the Centenary University men's lacrosse team came away with a 16-10 victory over Maritime College in the season opener on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) finished with six points on five goals and one assist for the Cyclones who improve to 1-0 overall. Nick Pellegrino and Julius Diaz both scored two goals apiece for the Privateers who fall to 0-1 overall.
Centenary scored six unanswered goals in the second quarter, including three in a row from junior
Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) and a first career goal from freshman
Robert Amanto (Avon Grove, Pa / Avon Grove), to take a 9-2 lead with 4:13 remaining in the first half. Maritime responded with two goals with under two minutes to play as the Cyclones maintained a 9-4 halftime advantage.
The second half saw both teams' trade goals, but Centenary maintained a five goals cushion throughout. Gottshall scored four of his five goals in the second half, including back-to-back scores late in the third and early in the fourth. Centenary edged Maritime on shots (41-25), groundballs (23-22), clears and turnovers, while Maritime edged Centenary on faceoffs and saves.
Freshman
Chris Howell (Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) totaled four groundballs and went 14-for-29 on faceoffs in his collegiate debut. Junior
Spencer Stachowiak (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) finished with four caused turnovers and three groundballs, while junior
Kyle Purcell (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) totaled three groundballs and three caused turnovers. Freshman
Jon Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) totaled three groundballs and one caused turnover, while fellow classmate
Nick Bogert (Islip Terrace, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) tallied a groundball and a caused turnover.

Noah Jones (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) made seven saves and recorded the win, while Justin Weigold made six saves and took the loss for Maritime.
