Spencer Drops Season-High 36 as Men’s Basketball Defeats Immaculata on Senior Day


HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Feb. 18, 2017)- Junior Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) scored a season-high 36 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Centenary University men's basketball team came away with a 92-85 victory over Immaculata University on Senior Day.

Senior Kyle Smith (Warwick, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) knocked down four triples and finished with 14 points for the Cyclones who finish the regular season at 12-13 overall and 8-10 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Mike Piekarski totaled 32 points for the Mighty Macs who finish the regular season at 12-13 overall and 10-8 in the CSAC.

Spencer shot the ball extremely well from the field, as he scored 19 of the Cyclones 43 points in the opening stanza. Centenary used a 19-5 run to take their largest lead of the contest at 36-16 with 4:12 remaining. Immaculata answered by closing the half on a 17-7 run, which gave the Cyclones a 43-33 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Immaculata battled all the way back to even the game at 73-73 with 8:14 remaining.  Despite tying the game up four times over the next 3:27, the Mighty Macs never regained the lead. Centenary finally shut the door with a 12-5 run over the final 3:48, including a key block and triple from Smith down the stretch.

Sophomore Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) totaled 15 points and six rebounds, while senior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) finished with eight points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) totaled eight points, while senior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) added eight assists, while setting a new single season record for assists. Roy Ferrell Jr. added 18 points, while Matt Simon totaled 13 in the loss for the Mighty Macs.

Before the game, Head Coach Tim Fusina and his staff honored Justen Davis (Edison, N.J. / Wardlaw-Hartridge), Duymich, Jones and Smith for their hardwork and dedication.

Coach Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action in the First Round of the CSAC Tournament on Mon. Feb. 20th in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. against the third seeded Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy University at 8:00 p.m.
