Women’s Basketball Goes Wire to Wire in Victory over Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. (Feb. 15, 2017)- Senior Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Centenary University women's basketball team went wire-to-wire in the 57-34 victory over Cairn University on Wednesday evening.

Junior Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) totaled 10 points, four assists and three rebounds for the Cyclones who improve to 19-5 overall and 12-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Kendra Stum and Charlotte Camp both finished with seven points apiece for the Highlanders who fall to 9-15 overall and 5-10 in the CSAC.

The contest got out of hand quickly as Centenary held Cairn to just 9.7% shooting during a 28-7 run that propelled the Cyclones to a 30-7 halftime advantage. The Highlanders were nearly held scoreless in the second quarter before Camp connected on a jumper before intermission.

The second half proved to be fairly even for both squads, but Cairn couldn't recover from the large halftime deficit as Centenary expended the lead to 32 at 43-11 with 3:16 remaining in the third.

Junior Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) finished with eight points and five rebounds, while fellow classmate Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) finished with eight points and seven rebounds.  EJ Hartzler finished with six points for the Highlanders in the loss.

Head Coach Rose Haller and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18th, hosting the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University for senior day at 2:00 p.m. Before the game, Coach Haller will honor seniors Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist), George, Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere), Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) and Heather Yaros (Hopatcong, N.J. / Hopatcong).
