Women’s Basketball Storms Past Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. (Jan. 25, 2017)- Senior Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) finished with 14 points, nine assists, and six rebounds as the Centenary University women's basketball team won its third straight contest with a 77-34 defeat of Clarks Summit University on Wednesday evening.

Senior Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) added 12 points for the Cyclones who improve to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Torri Erdman totaled 17 points and five rebounds for the Defenders who remain winless at 0-16 overall and 0-9 in the CSAC.

The Cyclones did most of their damage in the opening stanza, scoring 49 points and shooting 55.3% from the floor. George and Rabe combined for 22 points, as CSU was held to just 13 points on only five made field goals.

In the second half, CSU had a tough time erasing their first half deficit as the Cyclones stretched their advantage out to 59-13 on a layup by junior Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) midway through the third quarter.  The large lead gave way to extended minutes for the rest of the bench.

Sophomore Kayla Rowan (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) chipped in with seven points, three rebounds and three steals, while freshman Dayna Wich (Pompton Lakes, N.J. / Pompton Lakes) added five points and two rebounds. Junior Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) totaled nine points and three rebounds, while senior Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) totaled eight points and six rebounds.  Cartaino came away with eight points and eight rebounds, while junior Amber Reisenwitz (Cresco, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) tallied six points and four steals.

Head Coach Rose Haller and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28th, hosting the Cavaliers of Cabrini University at 2:00 p.m.
