Duymich Becomes All-Time Assist Leader as Men’s Basketball Falls to Gwynedd-Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. (Jan. 21, 2017)- Senior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) became Centenary's all-time assist leader at 331, as the Centenary men's basketball team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy University, 84-72 on Saturday afternoon.

Cedric Elleby finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds and three assists for the Griffins who improve to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Duymich finished with 10 points, nine assists and six rebounds for the Cyclones who fall to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the CSAC.

Duymich came into Saturday's contest needing nine assists to surpass Andre Harris (02-06) on the all-time list. He recorded the assist on a layup by junior Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) with 4:59 remaining in the second half.

After falling behind 11-4, the Cyclones responded with an 11-4 run to even the contest at 15-15 on a Duymich layup with 14:44 remaining in the first. GMercyU responded with a 15-3 run of their own that propelled them to a 47-38 lead at intermission.

In the second half, the Griffins increased their lead to as large as 20 points at 65-45 with 12:39 remaining. Centenary didn't retreat as a 23-9 run placed the Cyclones within striking distance with just under five minutes to play. Despite the push, Centenary ran out of gas late by scoring just four points over the final five minutes of the contest.

Spencer finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, while senior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) and sophomore Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) totaled 13 points apiece.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action on Monday, Jan. 23rd, in Radnor, Pa. against the Cavaliers of Cabrini University at 7:00 p.m.
