Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) scored a season-high 31 points as the Centenary University men's basketball team needed overtime to defeat Keystone College, 106-101, on Wednesday evening.
Senior
Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) nearly collected a triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists for the Cyclones who improve to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Mark Gilliam totaled 31 points for the Giants who fall to 5-10 overall 2-7 in the CSAC.
After trailing 36-35 at halftime, the Giants opened the second stanza with solid three point shooting that propelled them to a 62-53 lead with 11:34 remaining. Centenary eventually climbed back into the contest with a 9-4 run over a 2:37 span that evened the game at 77-77 with 5:00 remaining.
The final five minutes of regulation were a dogfight as both teams traded the lead. Spencer knocked down a triple to give the Cyclones an 89-87 lead with 22 seconds remaining. The Giants forced overtime at 89-89, when Gilliam made a layup with 11 seconds remaining.
In the extra session, Centenary actually trailed 95-92 with 3:09 remaining. Spencer proved to be clutch in overtime as he scored 12 points, including a game-tying triple at the 2:49 mark and a go ahead layup at the 1:28 mark. The Cyclones closed the game on a 9-4 run including six points from Spencer.

Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) finished with 17 points, five rebounds and five assists, while both senior
Kyle Smith (Warwick, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) and junior
Hamp Smith (Allentown, Pa. / William Allen) added six points apiece. Perry Belcher and Deion Monroe each totaled 16 points apiece in the loss for Keystone.
