Presant Leads the Way as Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short Against Neumann

ASTON, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2017)- Junior Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) tied a season-high with 13 points as the Centenary University women's basketball team dropped a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest to Neumann University, 50-46 on Saturday evening.

AAliya Hayes finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Knights who improve to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the CSAC. Senior Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) finished with 11 points for the Cyclones who fall to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the CSAC.

The first half saw five ties and four lead changes as Barofski and Presant combined for 15 of the Cyclones 23 points. Presant made back-to-back buckets during a mini 6-0 run that gave Centenary their largest lead of the game at 21-13 with 4:37 left in the second quarter.  Neumann responded with a 13-2 run over the final 4:37 to propel them to a 27-23 halftime advantage.

In the second half, the Knights continued where they left off in the opening stanza, using a 14-5 run to take a 41-28 lead with 2:39 left in the third quarter. Centenary answered with a 13-4 run to cut Neumann's lead to just four at 45-41 with 4:27 remaining.

Hayes and Nafisa Saunders were clutch for the Knights down the stretch, making key baskets to bring the lead back up to seven with fewer than three minutes to play.

Seniors Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) both finished with nine rebounds and six points. Saunders added 13 points, while Lauren Legler poured in 11 and Mariah Maciejewski grabbed 14 rebounds for Neumann.

Head Coach Rose Haller and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18th, hosting the Giants of Keystone College at 6:00 p.m.
