Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) finished with 16 points and four rebounds as the Centenary University men's basketball team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy, 82-69 on Wednesday evening.
Arron Goodman totaled 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Griffins who improve to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Senior
Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) finished with 15 points and eight rebounds for the Cyclones who fall to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the CSAC.
A low scoring but extremely physical first half saw the Cyclones take a late 33-32 lead on a three point by
Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown). Goodman
would give the Griffins a 36-32 halftime lead with back-to-back triples in the final two minutes of the opening half.
The second half saw eight ties and 18 lead changes as both teams went back and forth. The Cyclones held a small 63-62 lead at the 5:51 mark on a layup by sophomore
Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional). GMercyU responded with a 20-6 run over the final five minutes to propel them to the victory.
Duymich finished with 11 points, seven assists and three rebounds, while Logue added 11 rebounds and nine points. Senior
Kyle Smith (Warwick, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) and sophomore
Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) both totaled eight points apiece. Cedric Elleby totaled 11 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks, while Rip Engel added 12 points, nine assists and four rebounds for GMU.
