Men’s Soccer Falls to Eastern in High-Scoring Affair


ST. DAVID'S, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2016)- Three Different Cyclones netted a goal as the Centenary University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to Eastern University, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. Jacob Meyers scored a goal and took a team-high five shots for the Eagles, who improve to 4-1-1 overall. Senior Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill) and junior Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) both recorded four shots apiece for the Cyclones who fall to 2-3 overall.

Eastern and Centenary traded the lead back and forth in the first half as goals by juniors Matthew Anderson (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) and Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) were answered on a penalty kick from Jadon Ramsing and a score by Meyers to even the game at 2-2, going into halftime.

In the second half, Eastern took a 3-2 advantage in the 64th minute when Cade Harmon scored off an assist from Jake Sankey. The Cyclones responded just five minutes later, when junior Bryan Mason (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) played a cross into the box for sophomore Roger Fernandez (Succcasunna, N.J. / Roxbury). Fernandez tapped the ball in the score and the game remained deadlocked at 3-3 in the 69th minute.
Eastern then proceeded to break the game wide open with three unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes.

White recorded three shots while Fernandez, sophomore Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown), and freshman Matt Miller (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) each took two shots. JD Saracco recorded four shots, while Xavier Young, and Colin Furlong each tallied three shots apiece.  

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Madison, N.J. against the Devils of FDU-Florham at 7:00 p.m.
