Four Different Cyclones Homer as Baseball Sweeps Gwynedd-Mercy



CHESTER, N.Y. (May, 7, 2016)- Junior Sal Smith (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) and senior Nick Koffel (Perkiomenville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley) both went 3-for-6 as four different Cyclones hit a homerun in the doubleheader sweep of the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy University at the Rock Sports Park on Saturday afternoon. The Cyclones improve to 19-13 overall and 9-8 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Griffins fall to 18-19 overall and 9-8 overall in the CSAC.

Game 1: Centenary 2, Gwynedd-Mercy 1
The Cyclones maximized their limited production at the dish with two runs on only four hits in the game one victory. Smith made the most out of his one hit at the plate, as he homered to left field in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.

Freshman Trey Hinkle (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) improved to 7-2, after tossing his sixth complete game of the season with six hits and no earned runs.

Koffel, along with senior Chris Ohlweiler (Verona, N.J. / Verona) and freshman Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury) each recorded a hit in the victory. Jasiecki's single in the fourth, eventually led to a fielding error that allowed junior Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) to score.

Game 2: Centenary 11, Gwynedd-Mercy 4
Daniele, Jasiecki and freshman Casey Brown (Easton, Pa. / Easton Area) all homered, as the Cyclones bats' exploded for 11 runs on 13 hits. Sophomore Kevin Sensale (Bartonsville, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) went 3-for-4 with three RBI's, while Brown went 2-for-4 with three RBI's and sophomore John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) went 1-for-4 with two RBI's.

Eight different Cyclones recorded at least one hit apiece, including Smith and Koffel finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

After Jasiecki homered in the second, Centenary opened the flood gates in the fourth with five runs on five hits, including Koffel's 100th career hit as the Cyclones held a 7-0 advantage.

Daniele joined Koffel in the 100th career hit club during the sixth with a solo homerun, before Brown followed with a two run homer in the same inning.   

Following the sweep, the Cyclones are just one win away from clinching the final spot in the playoffs. Both teams will square off in this rubber match on Monday May, 9 at 12:00 p.m. Monday's game will also be Senior Day for the baseball team as Head Coach Scott Kushner will honor Koffel, Robert Aromando (Clinton, N.J. / North Hunterdon), Joe Frankosky (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional), Ryan Kanner (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Memorial) , Travis Eldridge (Blairstown, N.J. / North Warren Regional), Ohlweiler, and Jimmy Kraivec (Sayreville, N.J. / Sayreville War Memorial) prior to Monday's contest.
