Softball Splits Doubleheader with Summit


CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. (Apr. 6, 2016)- Senior Kylie Morgan-Polefka (Wharton, N.J. / Boonton) went 4-for-7 with three RBI's, two runs scored, two doubles and two triples as the Centenary College softball team split a doubleheader with the Defenders of Summit University.  The Cyclones record now stands at 3-10 overall and 3-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The Defenders record now stands at 4-14 overall and 1-3 in the CSAC.

Game 1: Summit 6, Centenary 5

The first game went back and forth as sophomore Ashley Eisenstein (Freehold, N.J. / Freehold Township) tripled and then scored on an error in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Summit scored the winning run in the eighth as the Defenders loaded the bases with a triple and then two consecutive walks. After loading the bases, the Cyclones walked in the winning run.   

Eisenstein went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Morgan-Polefka went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Junior Alexis
Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist)
went 1-for-3 with two RBI's, while fellow classmate Jamie Weingarten (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Game 2: Centenary 17, Summit 1

The Cyclones exploded for 17 runs on 16 hits in a mercy rule game two. Centenary scored the majority of its runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings.

Sophomore Carolyn Clites (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. / Hasbrouck Heights) went 3-for-5 with four RBI's and three runs scored. Clites was a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle in game two. Morgan-Polefka went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored, Weingarten went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Junior Katie Lauria (Middlesex, N.J. / Middlesex) struck out four batters in the complete game victory.

Head Coach Kim Broking and the Cyclones will return to action in Rosemont, Pa. on Friday, Apr. 8 against the Ravens of Rosemont College at 3:00 p.m.
