Seniors Shine as Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Marywood in Thriller

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Apr. 27, 2016)- Senior Trevor Krupinski (Lincoln Park, N.J. / Boonton) scored three goals, while fellow classmate Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J. / Pascack Valley) made 14 saves as the Centenary College men's lacrosse team clinched the third seed in the CSAC Playoffs with a thrilling 10-9 victory over Marywood on Senior Day.

Junior Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) totaled four points on three goals and one assist for the Cyclones who improve to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Scott Slater and Rob Mani both totaled four points apiece for the Pacers who fall to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the CSAC.

Gottshall netted two of his three goals in the first half, as Marywood controlled the action in the opening quarters. Slater and Mani combined for seven first half points, including Mani assisting on back-to-back goals to give the Pacers a 5-4 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the seniors took over with Krupinski scoring three goals and Switzer making nine saves, including six in the fourth quarter alone. After freshman Chris Snow (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) evened the game at 9-9 with 8:10 remaining, Krupinski netted the game-winner with 4:55 remaining.

Gottshall added seven groundballs, while freshman Jon Howell (Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) finished with five groundballs and five caused turnovers, including a key caused turnover with 17 seconds remaining to preserve the victory. Sophomore Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) assisted on the game-winner and scooped up four groundballs.

After the game, Coach Klank and his staff honored four senior student-athletes. They were Joey DeBiasse (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central), Krupinski, Kenton Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) and Switzer.

Head Coach Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. in the semifinals of the CSAC Tournament against the #2 seed Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy University at 1:00 p.m.
