Switzer Becomes All-Time Saves Leader in Loss to Gwynedd-Mercy


GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. (Apr. 16, 2016)- Senior Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J. / Pascack Valley) made 10 saves to become the program's all-time saves leader, as the Centenary College men's lacrosse team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy, 8-6. Ryan Simpson and Jacob Snavely both scored two goals apiece for the Griffins who improve to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Sophomore Denzel Thompson (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) scored two goals for the Cyclones who fall to 8-4 overall and 5-1 in the CSAC. 

Switzer came into Saturday's contest needing nine saves to surpass Ryan Seickel, who amassed 663 saves from 2003 to 2006, for the all-time record.

Thompson scored both of his goals in the first quarter, as the Cyclones took a 3-1 lead. Junior Michael Balsamo (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Memorial) and freshman Chris Snow (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) then netted back-to-back goals to maintain a 5-2 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Griffins capitalized on a penalty situation with a Simpson man-up goal with 13:26 remaining the third. Sophomore Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) responded with a goal at the 6:41 mark as the Cyclones took largest lead of the contest at 6-3.  

The Griffins rallied to take the lead for go in the fourth quarter with five unanswered goals, including two from Snavely. Tony McGraw engineered the Griffins as he won four faceoffs in the fourth quarter alone.

Junior Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) finished with five groundballs and two caused turnovers, while freshman Jon Howell (Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) totaled three groundballs and a caused turnover.

Head Coach Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action in Radnor, Pa. on Saturday, Apr. 23 against the No. 15 Cavaliers of Cabrini College at 3:00 p.m.
