HACKETTSTOWN N.J. (Apr. 16, 2016) – On Saturday afternoon, the Centenary College baseball team swept Cairn University.
Game 1: Centenary 2, Cairn 0
In game one, all the Cyclones needed were two runs as a defensive battle ensued. Junior
Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) smacked a single up the middle to bring in senior
Nick Koffel for the 1-0 lead in the first. Later in that inning, freshman
Casey Brown (Easton, Pa. / Easton Area) hit a single through the left side to bring home Daniele for the 2-0 lead.
From that point on it was the freshman
Trey Hinkle (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) show. Hinkle was perfect through 3.2 innings before allowing his first hit. Hinkle would only allow one more hit from that point forward, while striking out eight for the complete game shutout.
Game 2: Centenary 13, Cairn 4
The second game didn't get off to the best start for senior
Jimmy Kraivec (Sayreville, N.J. / Sayreville War Memorial) as the Highlanders scored four runs over the first two innings. After that point, Kraivec got into a groove and pitched two scoreless innings before handing it off to junior
Ryan St. John (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Burke Catholic), who pitched three scoreless innings himself. The pair combined for five strikeouts in the game.
It would be the hitting though that pushed the Cyclones over the top. In the third, sophomore
Kevin Sensale (Bartonsville, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) hit a three-run homer to pull the Cyclones to within a run. In the fourth, Centenary took the lead on a sophomore
Sean Donovan (Howell, N.J. / Howell) single, but it would be in the fifth inning where the roof collapsed on Cairn. The Cyclones drilled in eight runs while going through the entire battling order almost twice to take a commanding 13-4 lead.
Head Coach
Scott Kushner and the Cyclones will return to action on Friday, Apr. 22, hosting the Pacers of Marywood University at 3:00 p.m.
