Daniele Homers as Baseball Swept by Neumann



ALLAMUCHY, N.J. (Mar. 19, 2016)- Junior Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) hit a solo homerun, as the Centenary College baseball team was swept by the Knights of Neumann University at Green Acres Park on Saturday.

The Knights improve to 7-8 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Cyclones fall to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in the CSAC.

Neumann 4, Centenary 2 (8 inn.)

Freshman Trey Hinkle (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) only allowed one earned run with seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched.

Centenary took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, after sophomore John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) doubled to right field and then was brought home by Daniele with an RBI double. Neumann evened the game in the third with an RBI single to score the leadoff hitter.

The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 into the eighth, when the Knights scored three runs on three hits, including a two RBI double that gave Neumann a 4-1 advantage. In the bottom half, Centenary got a run back with Daniele's solo homerun, but Neumann's Anthony Stricker came in to record a save.  

Neumann 5, Centenary 4 (8 inn. )

Neumann took a 4-1 lead in the fourth, as three consecutive walks lead to two runs, before an error scored the third. Centenary responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs on three hits, including RBI's from senior Nick Koffel (Perkiomenville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley) and Tierney.   

The game remained tied into the eighth, when Neumann scored the winning run with an RBI single to left center.

Sophomore Glenn Allen (Cresskill, N.J. / Cresskill) went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Koffel went 1-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base.  Eric Bergman went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Ki Williams went 1-for-3 with two RBI's.

Head Coach Scott Kushner and the Cyclones will return to action in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Wed. Mar. 23 in a doubleheader against New York University at 3:00 p.m.
