Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Smith College


HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Mar. 13, 2016)- Senior Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) netted two goals as the Centenary College women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to Smith College, 17-5.

Ray Silveria totaled seven points on four goals and three assists for the Pioneers who improve to 2-2 overall. Senior Devin Sutko (Cinnaminson, N.J. / Cinnaminson) finished with a goal and an assist for the Cyclones who fall to 0-3 overall.

Senior Carlie Schmitt (Stewartstown, Pa. / Kennard-Dale) scored the lone goal of the first half for the Cyclones to even the game at 1-1 with 26:33 remaining.  Smith responded with 12 unanswered goals to take a 13-1 advantage at halftime.

Centenary opened the second half with three unanswered goals, including a goal from senior Kristen Rabenstein (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove). The Pioneers extended their lead to 17-4 with four unanswered goals in the final 16 minutes.

Rabenstein added six draw controls, five groundballs and two caused turnovers, while junior Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) totaled seven groundballs and three caused turnovers. Julia Hamilton and Chloe Harris each scored four goals apiece, while Emily Biggs totaled two goals, one assist, seven groundballs, six caused turnovers and four draw controls.  Freshman Renee Hack (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) made five saves and fell to 0-3, while Sarah Price played only 18:42 and took the decision.

Head Coach Julie Moir and the Cyclones will return to action in Allentown, Pa. on Tuesday, Mar. 15 against the Falcons of Cedar Crest College at 4:00 p.m.
