Joey DeBiasse (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) netted a hat-trick as the Centenary College men's lacrosse team opened the 2016 season with a 12-6 victory over Alverina University.

Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) and sophomore
Denzel Thompson (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) both recorded two goals apiece for the Cyclones who improve to 1-0 overall. Brett Gardels scored two goals for the Crusaders who fall to 0-1 overall.
DeBiasse scored two of his three goals in a four goal second quarter to allow Centenary to hold a 7-3 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Cyclones remained in control with DeBiasse scoring his third and Gottshall recording his second in the third quarter. Centenary held a 9-5 lead before sophomores
Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford),
Spencer Stachowiak (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) and Thompson netted insurance goals in the fourth.
Stachowiack added six groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Muff had two assists and two groundballs. Gottshall went 3-for-6 and freshman
Chance Hemphill (Dover, Del. / Smyrna) went 6-for-14 on the faceoff. Senior
Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J. / Pascack Valley) improved to 1-0 with 12 saves in 60 minutes of work between the pipes.

Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action in Throggs Neck, N.Y. on Saturday, Feb. 27 against the Privateers of Maritime College at 1:00 p.m.
