DeBiasse Nets Game-Winner as Men’s Lacrosse Rallies Against Maritime


THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2016)- Senior Joey DeBiasse (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) scored the game winning goal in overtime and finished with a career-high eight goals as the Centenary College men's lacrosse team rallied to a 12-11 victory over Maritime College on Saturday. 

Sophomore Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) finished with two points and a assist as the Cyclones improve to 2-0. Nick Pellegrino finished with four goals and a assist as the Privateers fall to 0-1.

After three unanswered goals gave Maritime a 4-1 lead early in the second quarter, DeBiasse and junior Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) responded with two unanswered goals as the Privateers held a 5-3 advantage at the break.
DeBiasse exploded for seven goals in the second half, including three in a row, which allowed Centenary to regain the lead at 10-9 with 1:21 remaining in the third. The Privateers closed the third quarter with two unanswered goals of their own, as they held a 11-10 lead entering the final quarter.

In the fourth and in overtime, DeBiasse scored the game tying goal and then the game-winner in the extra session.   

Senior Trevor Krupinski (Lincoln Park, N.J. / Boonton) finished with two assists and a goal, while sophomore Kyle Purcell (Islip, N.Y./ Islip)  finished with six groundballs and three caused turnovers. Sophomore Spencer Stachowiak (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) had another stellar game on defense with five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Senior Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J. / Pascack Valley) made 21 saves in 60:44 between the pipes.

Head Coach Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 2nd in the home opener against the Mules of Muhlenberg College at 3:00 p.m.
