Christopher and LaPolice Score as Women’s Soccer Falls to Marywood in CSAC Final

SCRANTON, Pa. (Nov. 5, 2016)- Sophomore Kara LaPolice (Hopewell, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) and freshman Chloe Christopher (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) both netted a goal as the Centenary University women's soccer team fell to Marywood University, 3-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship game on Saturday afternoon.

Megan Sweicicki scored the game-winner for the Pacers who improve to 11-5-2 overall and will now earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Junior Emily Pizzuto (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) and sophomore Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) each recorded an assist for the Cyclones who finish the season at 11-9 overall.

Centenary actually lead early in the match, as Christopher scored off a cross from Benoit to give the Cyclones a 1-0 advantage in the 18th minute. It looked like Centenary was going into halftime with the lead, but the Pacers struck late with a goal by McKenzie Dailey in the 45th minute. The game remained deadlocked at 1-1.

Marywood used the momentum that ended the first half in the second stanza. Aly Moyer cleared the ball from her own net, which bounced over the Centenary defense to a wide open Sweicicki for the score. Marywood took a 2-1 lead in the opening minute of the second half. Senior Jessie Sharr (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) nearly equalized the game in the 48th minute as her header, directly in front of the net, was knocked off the line by Elizabeth Carlson.

After Marywood scored again in the 83rd minute, the Cyclones finally answered in the 85th minute when LaPolice tapped the ball in after a save made by Moyer. Despite the late goal by the Cyclones, time just ran out on Centenary.

Sweicicki recorded a team-high four shots, while Moyer made five saves in the victory. LaPolice tallied four shots, while junior Kaitlin Marold (Edison, N.J. / Edison) finished with six saves in the loss.
