Spencer Records First Career Double-Double as Men’s Basketball Defeats Clarks Summit in CSAC Opener


HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Nov. 22, 2016)- Junior Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) collected his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Centenary University men's basketball team defeated Clarks Summit University, 95-59 in their Colonial States Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday evening.  

Spencer added seven assists and four steals for the Cyclones who improve to  2-2 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC. Noah Lindsey finished with 10 points for the Defenders who fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC.

CSU shot the ball really well in the first half, posting a 53.6% from the floor and a 50.0% from behind the arc, as the Defenders held a 40-38 advantage at the half.  Despite trailing at intermission, senior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) scored 10 of his 20 points, while fellow classmate Kyle Smith (Warwick, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) connected on two triples and totaled nine points in the opening stanza.

In the second half, Centenary broke the game wide open with a 26-3 run in the opening 7:50, which gave them a comfortable 64-45 lead.
Sophomore Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) scored 10 of his 12 points during the run. The Defenders were held to just 19 points and 20.7% shooting from the floor, while the Cyclones torched the nets for 57 points and 68.4% shooting.

Sophomore Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) finished with 10 points and four rebounds, while senior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) finished with six points, six assists and three rebounds. Junior Jason Sutton (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck) and freshman Joe Strand (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) both finished with seven points off the bench, while both freshmen Colin Frawley (Middletown, N.J. / Middletown North) and Noah Wright (Millerstown, Pa. / Greenwood) each scored their first basket as a Cyclone.  

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 26 against the Pioneers of William Paterson University at 2:00 p.m.
