Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) connected on three triples and finished with 25 points as the Centenary University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to Penn. State-Brandywine on Thursday evening.
Shafi Mohammad finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Nittany Lions who improve to 1-1 overall. Sophomore
Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) finished with 16 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Cyclones who fall to 1-1 overall.
The Nittany Lions torched the nets for the entire game, shooting 64.0% from the floor and 55.9% from the three point line. Despite the hot shooting, sophomore
Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) gave Centenary an early 8-6 lead with 15:43 remaining.
PSU responded with a 15-2 run over the next 3:58, which gave them a 21-12 advantage. Centenary continued to play catch-up, but stayed within striking distance using their free throw shooting. Senior
Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) went 4-for-6, while Logue and Spencer both went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe, as the Nittany Lions shot 56.0% from the floor and led 40-34 at halftime.
In the second half, Spencer poured in 20 points and made three triples, as the Cyclones couldn't recover from a 25-8 run by Brandywine and a 71.0% second half field goal percentage.
Weiler and senior
Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) both finished with 10 points, while Duymich added 10 rebounds and eight points. PSU finished with six players in double-figures, including four out of five starters. Pat Gallagher made four triples and finished with 16 points, while Cyrie Spencer added in 18 points, on 7-for-11 shooting, off the bench.
