Logue’s Clutch Triple Propels Men’s Basketball to Season-Opening Victory over Rutgers- Newark

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Nov. 15, 2016)- Sophomore Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) connected on a three-pointer with 18 seconds left, as the Centenary University men's basketball team came away with the 65-62 victory over Rutgers-Newark in the season opener on Tuesday evening.

Logue finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocks as the Cyclones improve to 1-0 overall. Tyler Ofray finished with 30 points for the Scarlet Raiders who fall to 0-1 overall.

Logue scored eight of the Cyclones nine points over the final 5:13 of the contest. After converting a layup in traffic to tie the game up at 58, he stepped into the passing line and nearly dunked the ball to tie the game at 60 with 4:37 remaining.

After Logue and senior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) split a pair of free throws, Centenary regained the lead at 62-60 with 1:52 remaining. Rutgers responded with a steal and a coast-to-coast layup to even the game at 62 with 1:13 remaining.

Centenary would come out of their final timeout and run the shot clock down, as junior Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) found Logue on the wing for the triple.

Despite foul trouble saddling Centenary's starters to the bench in the first half, the Cyclones finished with four out of five starters in double figures. Spencer finished with 16 points and four rebounds, while sophomore Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) totaled 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Jones just missed a double-double with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, while senior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) totaled seven points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Freshman Joe Strand (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) made his collegiate debut, logging three minutes in the contest.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action in Media, Pa. on Thursday, Nov. 17th against the Nittany Lions of PSU-Brandywine on 7:00 p.m.
