Castro Nets Goal, Assist as Men’s Soccer Edges Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa.- (Oct. 8, 2016)- Junior Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) notched a goal and an assist to lead Centenary University men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory against Rosemont College in CSAC play on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Daniel Lamanna (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) and sophomore Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) each tallied goals to help the Cyclones improve to 6-4-0 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play. The Ravens drop to 2-8-2 overall and 0-3-0 in CSAC play.

Centenary took the advantage early as Castro put the Cyclones on the board late in the opening half. The Cyclones added to their lead early in the second half as Lamanna chipped the ball past the keeper in the 53rd minute for a 2-0 lead.

Rosemont sliced into the Centenary lead as they scored in the 79th minute to cut the score to 2-1. The Cyclones answered less than two minutes later as Castro assisted on a goal by Weiss to push the Centenary lead to 3-1. The Ravens netted their second goal with under five minutes to play but the Cyclones held on to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Sophomore Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) was solid in net, recording three saves, including two in the opening half. Centenary held the advantage in shots, 20-9, shots on goal, 9-5 and corner kicks 9-1.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action on Tuesday Oct. 11 as they travel to Marywood University in Scranton, Pa. for a 7 pm game.
