LANGHORNE, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2016)- Sophomore
Zoey Woody (North Brunswick, N.J. / North Brunswick) posted a double-double with 23 assists and 15 digs as the Centenary University volleyball team dropped a Colonial States Athletic Conference match to Cairn University,
3-2 on Thursday evening.
Liz White recorded her own double-double with 21 assists and 14 digs for the Highlanders who improve to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in the CSAC. Woody added eight aces and seven kills for the Cyclones who fall to 1-16 overall and 0-6 in the CSAC.
Cairn put Centenary's back against the wall with victories in set one (25-23) and set two (25-16) before the Cyclones recovered to force a deciding set with victories in set three (25-13) and set four (25-14). Cairn would record a match-high .364 attacking percentage as the Highlanders took the fifth set for their first CSAC victory of the season. Â Â
In set three and set four, the Cyclones posted nine kills and recorded a .238 hitting percentage in the set four victory. In set three, sophomore
Giani Montalvo (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth) gave the Cyclones a 10-3 lead with three aces and a kill. Montalvo finished with 10 digs, seven kills, six aces, and two assists. In set four, Woody opened by serving for five straight points and then put Centenary in front with a commanding 21-12 advantage by serving for another seven straight points.
Junior
Amanda Fullem (Linden, N.J. / Mother Seton) recorded a match-high 10 kills and added four aces, while sophomore
Ashley Bierbaum (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) tallied 15 digs. Whitney Seidel finished with 10 kills and three assists, while Haley Sheehan totaled 10 digs and eight kills.
Head Coach
Kelsey Walter and the Cyclones will return to action in Dallas, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 8 in a Tri-Match at Misericordia University against the Cougars and the Nittany Lions of PSU-Berks. Â
