HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Jan. 5, 2016)- Three players scored in double figures as the Centenary College women's basketball team tallied their first Colonial States Athletic Conference victory in a 73-39 wire-to-wire defeat of Cairn University.
Senior
Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J. / Wood-Ridge) totaled 15 points, five rebounds and four steals as the Cyclones improved to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC. Aigner Bookard led all scorers with 17 points for the Highlanders who fall to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC.
Centenary dominated every aspect of the boxscore, including outscoring Cairn 39-5 on bench points. Sophomore
Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) and junior
Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) proved to be difference makers off the pine as they combined for 22 of the 39 bench points. Presant finished with a season-high 10 points and a career-high five steals, while Rabe just missed out on recording her first double-double of the season with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Cyclones were extremely active on the defensive end, as they tied a season-high with 18 steals. Presant and junior
Heather Yaros (Hopatcong, N.J. / Hopatcong) combined for six of the 18 steals in the first half, which allowed Centenary to maintain a comfortable lead for the rest of the game.
The Highlanders had a tough shooting night, as they didn't crack 25% from the field for the entire game. Cairn's leading scorer Amie Eppolito was held to just eight points on 2-for-18 shooting.
Junior
Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) finished with eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals in 21 minutes, while fellow classmate
Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) missed scoring in double digits, as she finished with eight points and four rebounds.
